Workhuman Texas 2024
Oh my word, Workhuman in Austin TX was totally AWESOME and beyond all my expectations!
In fact, I’d go so far as to say that if you ever get the chance to go to an HR event, THIS IS THE ONE to choose!
Not only was Workhuman a totally EPIC event, but I also got to share it with my BritSquad Kirsty Baggs-Morgan🌶, Kelly Swingler and Sam Eaton too!
😍What a week we all had:
😊It started out as four LinkedIn friends going to a conference in Austin TX, who were sharing an Airbnb to save costs.
💖 We Madged, we laughed, we cried, we laughed, we conferenced, we ate, we Uber’d, we laughed, we pooled, we laughed, we scorpioned (and I don’t mean the 80s band!), we laundered, we packed, we laughed and we lounged.
🥰 We ended as four true friends who all have hearts that have grown a little bigger this week.
🥰And I’m buzzing for next year already!

Weirdy Cheerleady-y
What I LOVED about Austin, TX was the campaign that Kelly spotted on the plane…
“Keep Austin Weird”
In that moment I knew I’d found my place..!
We were lucky enough to see the splendiferous Brené Brown speak and she is possibly the most INSPIRATIONAL, relatable and wonderful human I think I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching.
What is and always will be uniquely human, and how do we nurture and protect that? (Brené Brown)

And I’m still processing her amazing talk on AI – Artificial Intimacy – which has made me EVEN more convinced that:
💖 we NEED the weird
💖 we NEED the connections
💖 we NEED the relatable and the real
Because being around those who allow you to be yourself, weird and all, is a GIFT!!PS: my weird skill is I can spot an incorrect font or colour at 20 paces… and when I do I can’t focus on anything else!

Connecting To Your Authentic Self
Spot the difference…
In one image I am:
• heading for burnout
• living with high functioning anxiety
• living with high functioning depression
• masking almost everything about myself
• battling myself and ignoring my needs every single day
In the other I am:
🌈 recognising the true me
🌈 following the joy in all I do
🌈 appreciating my magical energy
🌈 living with high functioning anxiety
🌈 living with high functioning depression
🌈 living with post burnout and auto immune conditions
🌈 looking after my needs and listening to my body every single day
I talk about connecting back to your authentic self because I’VE LIVED IT.
I connect professional women back to their authentic selves with my coaching because I’VE BEEN THERE.
I do talks about being yourself in HR because MASKING BROKE ME.
I only recently re-looked at my corporate headshot, and in comparing it to one I had taken a few weeks ago, I am actually quite shocked at the difference now I see them side by side.

Don’t Set Yourself on Fire!
In case you need to hear this; you DO NOT need to set yourself on fire to keep everyone else warm! 🔥
I have literally lost count of the times that:
😭 I’ve cried at work
😶 I’ve hidden my own feelings because I didn’t think my voice counted
😵 I’ve worked ALL the hours and strived so hard for little or no recognition
🤐 I didn’t speak up or speak out because I was scared
😬 I’ve been so frustrated I’ve bitten my cheeks until they bled
What did I learn from all of these experiences?
🚨 That people don’t care
🚨 They can’t care if they don’t know
🚨 That it doesn’t matter how many hours you work, or how much you try
Your employer won’t be paying for your funeral, and they’ll replace you within 6 months, so why are so many of us still doing it?
It’s time to STOP!
Remember, your well-being matters. You deserve respect, recognition, and a workplace where you feel valued.
Take a stand and make your boundaries known!
Because, remembering and acknowledging that you don’t have to BE and DO everything is super powerful! ❤️
My Tips to Stop The Burn
I don’t want to get all maudlin and ranty here, but HR won’t change unless we do!
So, it’s time to:
⛔️ Stop over giving
⛔️ Stop filling the gaps
⛔️ Stop hoping people will notice
Instead, let’s start:
✅ Saying no
✅ Looking after us FIRST
✅ Listen to your body, and STOP BEFORE you need to
